For the inaugural edition of "Bartender's Guide: 24 hours in" we chat to the incredible Aashi Bhatnagar from Cobbler & Crew who shares her top tips and must visit spots for a trip to Pune.

Where would you recommend starting the day for a great breakfast or coffee? Are there any local spots that really capture the essence of the city in the morning?
German Bakery: An iconic spot in Koregaon Park, German Bakery offers a mix of Continental and local breakfast options. From freshly baked bread and croissants to hearty breakfast platters, it caters to a diverse crowd. Following a tragic bombing in 2010, German Bakery became a symbol of resilience and unity for Pune. It’s a place that brings people together, much like how bars and cocktail culture foster community and connection. For instance, their famous Shrewsbury biscuits or almond croissants can really make your day.
Café Good Luck: Morning at Café Goodluck is a must go in Pune and it is located at Deccan. Established in 1935, this legendary café buzzes with energy with their signature Bun Maska with Irani chai. The aroma of freshly brewed tea and sizzling omelets filled in the air giving nostalgia of old pune college days, and tables brim with patrons sharing conversations over plates of keema pav and crispy French toast. It's a place where old-world charm meets Pune, creating the perfect start to the day.
Hotel Samadhan: The place is known for its hearty Maharashtrian breakfast, like hot poha, crispy kanda bhaji, and flavourful misal pav. Jogeshwari Misal: It is a hidden gem for misal lovers in Pune, known for serving one of the most flavourful and spicy misal pav in the city. Located in the heart of Pune. The misal here is loaded with a fiery, tangy curry topped with crunchy farsan, fresh onions, and a squeeze of lime, served with soft pav and a side of refreshing buttermilk to balance the heat. It’s a must visit spot for an authentic and memorable Maharashtrian misal experience.
Surve’s Pure Non-Veg: For a hearty Maharashtrian thali with spicy Kolhapuri chicken, mutton curry, and bhakri (traditional flatbread).
Burger King Pune: This is not your usual Burger King, This Pune-based chain, established in 1954, has been operating under the name "Burger King" for decades before the international franchise entered the Indian market in 2014. Shabree: Famous for its authentic Maharashtrian thali, which is a feast for the senses. It typically includes a variety of dishes such as puran poli (sweet flatbread stuffed with jaggery and lentils), thalipeeth (multi-grain flatbread), batata bhaji (spiced potato stir-fry), and karela bhaji (bitter gourd fries). Each thali is accompanied by amti (a tangy lentil curry), rice, and an assortment of chutneys that enhance the overall flavor. Shabree offers a variety of local dishes, including puran poli, vada, and modak. The restaurant's casual atmosphere and hearty portions make it a favourite for those wanting to experience traditional Maharashtrian cuisine.

Ganesh Chaturthi: This is one of the most important festivals in Pune, celebrated with great enthusiasm. The city is adorned with elaborate decorations, and Ganesh idols are welcomed in homes and public places for 11 days usually in the month of September. If you're in Pune during the Ganesh festival or other celebrations, witnessing a Puneri Dhol Tasha performance is a must. This traditional drum performance is lively and adds a festive spirit to any event. Dhol Tasha fosters community participation and celebration, making it a cherished aspect of Pune's culture.
Folk Arts and Crafts: Pune is home to various traditional crafts, including Paithani sarees and Warli art which is a traditional form of tribal art that originated from the Warli tribe of Maharashtra. It is now used in various decorative items, textiles, and wall hangings. Maharashtra is famous for its vibrant lac bangles, which are crafted using a special resin and often embellished with colourful designs, mirrors, and stones. Pune is a delightful destination from September to January, with each month offering unique experiences. The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, when the weather is pleasantly cool, ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F), ideal for outdoor exploration. September marks the vibrant celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, where the city comes alive with colorful decorations, lively processions, and the immersion of Ganesh idols.
As you move into the cooler months, the Pune International Film Festival in January showcases a variety of national and international films, making it a must for cinema lovers. By planning your visit during this period, you can immerse yourself in Pune's rich culture, festivals, and vibrant atmosphere, all while enjoying the pleasant weather.

Finally, what are your personal favourite spots in the city? Whether it’s a park, a street, or a little-known café, what makes it special to you?
One of my favourite spots in Pune is Cobbler & Crew, my home away from home. As the head of the bar, I take immense pride in how we use local and organic ingredients to craft innovative cocktails that truly tell a story. Each drink we create is a reflection of our passion for mixology and our commitment to sustainability, showcasing the rich Flavors of our region. What makes Cobbler & Crew even more special is the sense of family among the staff and our regular guests.
We’ve built a vibrant community where everyone feels welcome and connected. Another thing that holds a special place in my heart is Pune's culinary scene, especially misal pav, crispy dosas, and, of course, vada pav. These dishes reflect the city's rich culture and vibrant street food tradition. Similarly, Ganesh Chaturthi is particularly meaningful to me, as the festivities bring the community together in colourful celebration.
